Adjusted hours for Library Service (Physical Library)
The Library is providing a 24h Reading Room service from Monday to Sunday as follows:
Monday- Saturday: 17:00 h to 7:00 h
Sunday: 7:00 h - 19:00 h
This service is offered during the examination period to provide a quiet study space for students who are writing examinations.
VIRTUAL SERVICES
Given the Library’s mandate to adequately and effectively serve its users and to aid the teaching and learning process to help users to achieve their academic milestones, the University of Guyana Library offers virtual and online services to meet the needs of our patrons.
Some of the virtual services offered are as follows:
- The Library’s Portal
The Library's Portal is where one can access information on the various services offered whether it is face-to-face or virtual. You can also find links to databases, online registration forms, Inter-library loan forms, the library catalogue, video tutorials, and a list of additions.
- Online Registration
All users must register/re-register with the library each academic year;
Users can register remotely by:
- Going to the Library portal and using the Turkeyen link or Tain link depending on which campus you are attending
- On the registration form, new students are required to upload their Acceptance Letter and one form of identification (National Identification Card, Valid Passport, or Driver’s License) for provisional registration.
- When in receipt of your confirmation letter from the Admissions Division, a copy must be sent to the library along with a valid form of Identification to be fully registered.
Continuing students are required to upload their confirmation of registration letters.
The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
The Library's OPAC can be accessed through the library’s portal and patrons can browse to find all the materials housed in the library.
The Library provides access to E-Resources in the form of subscriptions and open source databases.
Databases
Patrons can gain access to e-resources using the library’s databases. The databases provide the opportunity to browse journal articles, e-books, etc. that are subscribed to by the library.

Available subscription databases
- EBSCOhost, which is a customizable database that caters to user needs and preferences at every level of research, with full texts in topics such as Education, Management, Natural Sciences, Literature, and Caribbean material. This database comprises of research databases, e-books and e-journals, and has the feature to accommodate Basic and Advanced Search options for beginners and experienced researchers.
- JSTOR, which currently includes more than 2,000 academic journals dating back to the first volume ever published, along with thousands of monographs and other materials relevant to education.
- V/Lex is a legal database that provides full text access, for which the University of Guyana has access to the Caribbean Core which includes over 56,000 cases from 18 Caribbean jurisdictions.
- The Lexis Library is a legal database that provides full text access to UK legislation and law reports, legal journals and commentary sources, and online versions of major research encyclopedias including Halsbury’s Laws of England, Atkins Court Forms and Encyclopedia of Forms and Precedents.
- Research4life provides institutions with access to Health Research, developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners to improve access to scientific information for health sector institutions in low- and middle-income countries. It contains about 1500 journals from 6 major publishers. AGORA, HINARI, GOALI, ARDI and OARE databases are under the Research4life umbrella.
- AccessPharmacy is a comprehensive, content-rich online pharmacy resource that allows users to explore leading pharmacy references, search curriculum topics, and research drugs and supplements.
Information Literacy Sessions via Zoom
The library offers Information Literacy sessions for students and staff in the areas of:
- Use of online catalogue
- Use of electronic databases
- Plagiarism
- Zotero and Mendeley – (These are reference management tools with bibliographical information to assist with referencing)
- Referencing and Citation Training
Lecturers or groups of students can make requests for these sessions by either filling out the online form that can be found on the Library’s Portal or by contacting the library directly via mobile or landline, through email, WhatsApp, or Facebook.
Call and collect
Patrons can contact us to request print resources and we will prepare the request(s) for pick up at a date and time to be arranged.
